Health care utilization

Concurrent general medical and psychiatric illnesses frequently occur in the same individual, yet are assessed and treated in separate health care systems worldwide as though a relationship between the two does not exist. This segregated health care system has a negative impact on clinical, functional, and financial outcomes. An integrated care model leads to health improvements and decreases health care utilization and the total costs of care.2
